Anita Catherine Meier, daughter of Carl and Amelia Sell Hartman, was born May 20, 1923, in Franklin Township of Bremer County, Iowa. She was baptized and confirmed at St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church in Readlyn.

            On January 23, 1941, she was united in marriage with Lavern A. Meier at St. John Lutheran Church-Buck Creek by Rev. Alfred Rauch. In addition to assisting Lavern on the farm, Anita also worked for twenty-four years at the Hillcrest Home in Sumner prior to retiring in 1990.

            A resident at Hillcrest since April of 2010, Anita’s death occurred there on Saturday, March 10, 2012. She was eighty-eight years old and a longtime member of St. John Lutheran Church where she had been active with WELCA.

            She is survived by two sons, Lawain (Linda) Meier and Delwin (Brenda) Meier, both of Sumner; eight grandchildren, Corey (Darcia) Meier, Jesse (Kim) Meier, Jacob Meier (Jen Hearne), Ethan Meier (Brittany Larson), Melissa (Ron) Meier-Broussard, Nichelle ( John) Ortegon, Jaclyn (Eric) Barker, and Samuel Meier (Aimee Munoz); and nine great grandchildren, Keegan, Bailee, Hannah, and Emery Meier, Blake and Brooklynn Broussard, and Emersyn, Logan, and Ashton Barker.

            Anita was preceded in death by her husband, Lavern on April 13, 2005; one son, Galen; her parents; five brothers, Paul, Edward, Carl, Harvey, and Wilbert; and one sister, Mabel Boderman.

         Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m., Thursday, March 15, 2012, at St. John Lutheran Church in Sumner with Rev. William Runaas, Jr. officiating. Interment will follow at St. John Lutheran Cemetery-Buck Creek in rural Sumner.  Friends may call from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, March 14, 2012, at Becker-Milnes Funeral Home in Sumner and for one hour preceding services at the church on Thursday. Memorial donations may be made in her name to St. John Lutheran Church or the Hillcrest Home, both in Sumner.
